Swedbank Q1 Profits Beats Expectations on Better Deposit Margins

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -Swedish bank Swedbank reported first-quarter net profit above market expectations on Thursday and said higher deposit margins had boosted results, although credit impairments also rose.

The rivals of Handelsbanken, SEB and Nordea said net profit totaled 7.56 billion Swedish crowns ($733.24 million) versus a year-ago 4.48 billion, topping a mean forecast of 6.62 billion, according to analyst estimates provided by the company.

CEO Jens Henriksson said Swedbank had a strong start to the year.

“The driving factor was higher net interest income, which strengthened thanks to higher deposit margins,” he told a news conference.

Higher interest rates have meant that Swedish banks have increased margins on their loan business. The Riksbank raised interest rates to 3.5% on Wednesday, up from zero just over a year ago, and said a further hike was likely.

Swedbank, Sweden’s biggest mortgage bank, said its net interest income, which includes revenue from mortgages, rose by 77% to 11.94 billion from a year-ago 6.76 billion, above the 11.37 billion expected by analysts.

Commission income rose to 3.66 billion crowns from a year ago 3.55 billion, above the mean forecast of 3.48 billion, while the bank made a profit on financial transactions, including hedging instruments, of 916 million compared to 139 million a year earlier.

Swedbank said its credit impairments rose to 777 million crowns from 158 million a year ago, above the 386 million seen by analysts.

Leptin and Weight Loss – Maria Mind Body Health

Did you ever wonder why it is easier to gain weight than keeping it off?

The key to this is in the fat cells where a powerful hormone is produced called leptin. Leptin signals the brain to regulate the metabolism in order to store or burn fat.

Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that helps regulate appetite and energy expenditure. When leptin levels are high, it signals to the brain that the body has enough energy and can stop eating. However, when the body becomes resistant to leptin, this signaling system breaks down, leading to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips on improving leptin sensitivity.

WEIGHT LOSS STRUGGLES

85% of people who lose weight end up regaining weight because the “metabolic thermostat” of the body, leptin, is reset upward automatically. When people lose weight, leptin production decreases, which causes people to regain the lost weight. This protein hormone is derived from fat cells so when you lose fat, leptin levels drop. When you gain fat, leptin levels rise. Once leptin is secreted by your fat cells, it travels to the hypothalamus; which controls eating behavior. Once it’s there, leptin activates anorectic nerve cells, which decreases your appetite. At the same time, leptin stops cells from stimulating your appetite. To put it simply, when leptin levels drop, you get hungry. When they go up, you feel full. Leptin communicates directly to your brain, telling the brain how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy, and metabolic rate. Leptin problems are the primary reason for food cravings, overeating, slow metabolism, food obsession and heart disease.

You’d think that having extra fat stores creates more leptin, but that is where an interesting mystery comes into play. 98% of those who are significantly overweight are leptin-resistant. Most defects in leptin signaling may lead to obesity, overeating and less energy expenditure. Leptin-resistance is similar to insulin-resistance in that it occurs after being overexposed to high levels of the hormone. At this point, the body no longer responds to the hormone. Much like high blood sugar levels result in surges in insulin, sugar metabolized in fat cells causes the fat to release surges in leptin. Over time, leptin-resistance may develop.

Leptin is a hormone that is produced by fat cells and is responsible for regulating appetite and energy expenditure. Leptin resistance occurs when the body no longer responds to leptin, leading to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure. In this blog post, we will discuss what leptin resistance is, what causes it, and how to treat it.

Leptin Resistance and High Fat Keto/Carnivore

This is also why so many people don’t lose weight on high fat keto or carnivore. Or they lose a little weight then stall. If you are overweight or obese, you are likely leptin resistant so don’t get the “I’m full” signal like you should. So you overeat and overeat on fat means less of your own body fat burned for fuel. You have to dial the dietary fat down so you lose more body fat. Losing body fat will then help reverse the leptin resistance and help you feel full quicker.

What is Leptin Resistance?

Leptin resistance is a condition in which the body no longer responds to leptin. Leptin is released by fat cells and travels to the brain to signal that the body has enough energy stores and that it can stop eating. However, when the body becomes resistant to leptin, this signaling system breaks down, and the brain no longer receives the message that the body has enough energy. This leads to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure, which can contribute to weight gain and obesity.

What Causes Leptin Resistance?

There are several factors that can contribute to leptin resistance. One of the main causes is obesity. When the body has excess fat, it produces more leptin. Over time, the body becomes resistant to leptin, and the signaling system breaks down. Other factors that can contribute to leptin resistance include a high-fat diet, inflammation, and genetics.

How to Eat to Reverse Leptin Resistance

The best way to reduce your chances of diabetes is to avoid surges in leptin; which is the leading cause of leptin-resistance. Eating the typical American diet, full of refined sugars and other processed foods, is a guaranteed way to cause unwanted surges. Focusing your diet on simple, real unprocessed foods is the best way to prevent leptin resistance.

One food to help with leptin is protein. Protein improves leptin sensitivity, which lowers calorie intake by helping you feel full faster. Increase your protein to at least 30 grams for breakfast and at least another 60 throughout the day. Choose quality proteins like salmon, grass fed meat, and free-range eggs!

Maximize your health goals with these FREE meal plans.

HOW TO IMPROVE LEPTIN SENSITIVITY

1. Reduce Calorie Intake

Reducing calorie intake can help improve leptin sensitivity. When the body has excess fat, it produces more leptin. Over time, the body becomes resistant to leptin, and the signaling system breaks down. By reducing calorie intake, the body can start to use stored fat as energy, which can decrease leptin resistance and improve leptin sensitivity.

2. Prioritize Protein

3. Exercise regularly

Regular exercise can also improve leptin sensitivity. Exercise can increase energy expenditure and improve insulin sensitivity, both of which can improve leptin sensitivity. Resistance training, in particular, has been shown to be effective in improving leptin signaling.

4. Get Enough Sleep

A HUGE piece of healing leptin resistance and improving leptin sensitivity is sleep! Getting enough sleep is also important for improving leptin sensitivity. Lack of sleep can disrupt hormones, including leptin, and contribute to insulin resistance. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to improve leptin sensitivity and overall health.

5. Reduce Stress

Chronic stress can also contribute to leptin resistance. Stress can lead to inflammation and disrupt hormone balance, both of which can contribute to leptin resistance. Finding ways to reduce stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature, can improve leptin sensitivity.

In conclusion, improving leptin sensitivity is important for regulating appetite and energy expenditure. By reducing calorie intake, prioritizing protein intake, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress, it is possible to improve leptin sensitivity and promote a healthy weight. The best thing you can do to reverse leptin resistance is to shrink your fat cells by losing body fat.

“I can still hardly believe how much I’ve changed my health in a year!

God brought me through a series of major stressors but my body was worse for the wear. I tanked my adrenal system and gained a lot of weight. Step one was to accept myself with grace. Then a time came when I really started questioning how the weight was affecting my health. Is this the inevitable path of aging or can I change my future? I chose to go for a new life.

Knowing that I could do better with low carbs, I researched and decided to try Maria & Craig Emmerich’s keto plan. I studied her online courses and books, cooked her recipes, and immersed myself in their online group. I succeeded beyond my wildest dreams!

• 75 pounds lost in a year.

• From size 16/18 to a size 6/8.

• No more heartburn meds.

• Eating delicious food.

• Feeling like myself again, but better.

Thank you so much, Maria & Craig! You’re the best! ❤️– Jaya

Signature Bank closed by New York regulators in fallout from SVB

US regulators are racing against the clock to stop a potential contagion from spreading to other lenders

(Bloomberg) — Signature Bank was closed by New York state financial regulators on Sunday as the fallout from last week’s implosion of SVB Financial Group’s Silicon Valley Bank spreads to other lenders.

Depositors at the New York-based bank will have access to their money under “a similar systemic risk exception” to one that will allow Silicon Valley Bank clients to get their money on Monday, the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Insurance Deposit Corp. said in a joint statement Sunday.

Article content

“All depositors of this institution will be made whole,” the regulators said. “As with the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank, no losses will be borne by the taxpayer.”

The decision to put Signature into receivership came as a surprise to its managers, who found out shortly before the public announcement, said a person familiar with the company’s operations. The bank faced a torrent of deposit outflows on Friday, but the situation had stabilized by Sunday, the person said, asking not to be identified as discussing a private matter.

A Signature Bank representative declined to comment.

Signature Bank, a New York state-chartered commercial bank that’s FDIC-insured, had total assets of about $110.36 billion and total deposits of roughly $88.59 billion as of Dec. 31, the New York Department of Financial Services said in a separate statement.

Silicon Valley Bank abruptly became the biggest US lender to fail in more than a decade on Friday, unraveling in less than 48 hours after outlining a plan to shore up capital. The bank took a huge loss on sales of its securities amid rising interest rates, spooking investors and depositors who rapidly began pulling their money. On Thursday alone, investors and depositors tried to yank about $42 billion.

US regulators are racing against the clock to find solutions to fail Silicon Valley Bank and stop a potential contagion from spreading to other lenders. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Sunday that she approved a resolution for Silicon Valley Bank “that fully protects all depositors.” Concern about the health of other smaller banks focused on the venture capital and startup communities is prompting regulators to consider extraordinary measures to protect financial institutions and their depositors.

New York’s Department of Financial Services is in “close contact with all regulated entities in light of market events, monitoring market trends and collaborating closely with other state and federal regulators to protect consumers, ensure the health of the entities we regulate and preserve the stability of the global financial system,” Superintendent Adrienne A. Harris said in her agency’s statement.

Signature Bank came under the spotlight with the collapse of the FTX crypto exchange late last year.

FTX had accounts with Signature Bank, which the company said represented less than 0.1% of its overall deposits. In December, after FTX’s collapse, Signature said it planned to shed as much as $10 billion in deposits from digital-asset clients. That would bring crypto-related deposits to around 15% to 20% of its total, and the bank said it would cap the share of deposits from any single digital-asset client.

Silvergate Capital Corp., another bank hit hard by FTX’s implosion that spent recent weeks bombarded by short sellers, deserted by depositors and shunned by business partners, said last week it was closing its doors, just days before Silicon Valley Bank’s seizure.

Bird’s Nest Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Celebrate Easter with these festive Bird’s Nest Carrot Cake Cupcakes that are super moist, naturally sweetened with maple syrup and applesauce, all topped with a cream cheese frosting, toasted coconut and chocolate candies!

Easter is right around the corner and these carrot cake cupcakes make the perfect festive treat! The cutest little desserts that are not only delicious, but make such a great addition to your holiday table. These carrot cake cupcakes are made healthier with whole wheat pastry flour, shredded carrots, coconut oil in place of butter and naturally sweetened with maple syrup and applesauce. The cupcakes are topped with a delicious cream cheese frosting and toasted coconut making adorable “bird’s nests” with egg-shaped chocolate candies.

For these bird’s nest cupcakes, I wanted to go with a carrot cake to stay with the fun Easter theme, but you could of course make any type of cupcakes or frosting you’d like! However I highly recommend making these deliciously moist carrot cake cupcakes as I KNOW you won’t be disappointed! My 2 year old kept calling them “baby bird treats” and absolutely loved them.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Whole wheat pastry flour – I love baking with whole wheat pastry flour as it has all the nutritional benefits of whole grain flour while giving these cupcakes a light and fluffy texture. I highly recommend using this, but if you don’t have any on hand you could use white whole wheat flour or regular all-purpose flour
  • Baking soda + baking powder – these act as leavening agents to help the cupcakes rise
  • Carrots – you’ll need to grate about 2 medium carrots to get a healthy cup for this recipe, the grated carrot also helps keep these cupcakes moist
  • Applesauce – just a little bit of unsweetened applesauce in these cupcakes helps to reduce the amount of oil we need to use and also adds a little extra sweetness. You could also use a mashed banana as well
  • Coconut oil – this takes the place of butter in these cupcakes and helps make them moist and fluffy!
  • eggs – gives these muffins their structure and height
  • Sweeteners – I used a combination of coconut sugar along with some maple syrup to naturally sweeten these cupcakes without using refined sugar
  • Spices – a delicious combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and salt
  • vanilla – enhances the flavor in these cupcakes and tastes so good with the warm spices
  • Shredded coconut – this is what we’ll use to create the little “nests” on top of the cupcakes and make sure to use unsweetened shredded coconut that has longer strands, not coconut flakes that look more like chips
  • Cream cheese – this is needed to make the frosting! I like to set mine out about an hour before using so that it softens and is easier to whip

How to Make Carrot Cake Cupcakes

This recipe makes 12 cupcakes OR you could make 24 mini carrot cake muffins! You will make the batter the exact same way, you’ll just need to adjust the cooking time for the smaller muffins. Here’s how to make them!

  1. Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat pastry flour, baking soda, baking powder, coconut sugar, salt and spices, then set aside.
  2. Mix wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together grated carrot, eggs, applesauce, maple syrup, and vanilla until all combined. Then mix in the coconut oil, just make sure you melt the coconut oil first and let it cool before mixing with the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Make the batter. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and mix with a spatula until just combined, being careful not to over-mix the batter. Divide the batter evenly between 12 muffin cups lined with cupcake liners (or you could spray them with non-stick spray), making sure to fill each cup about 2/3rds full. You could also make 24 mini muffins!
  4. BAKE! Bake the cupcakes at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes, or until a toothpick is inserted clean then let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. If baking mini-size muffins, bake at 350 for about 10 to 13 minutes. Next I’ll show you how to make the cream cheese frosting and assemble your bird’s nests!

How to Make the Bird’s Nests

While the cupcakes are cool, you can toast the coconut and make the cream cheese frosting!

  1. Toast the coconut. Toasting coconut adds such a robust, nutty flavor to otherwise plain coconut and gives these cupcakes a great texture! Start by adding the shredded coconut to a large dry skillet (no need for oil!) and cook over medium heat, making sure the coconut is in an even layer in the pan. Continuously stir the coconut in the skillet until golden brown and fragrant, being careful not to let the coconut burn.
  2. Make the frosting. In the bowl of your stand mixer (or you could use a hand mixer), combine softened cream cheese, maple syrup and vanilla and whip on high until smooth.
  3. Assemble the bird’s nests! Once your cupcakes are completely cool, frost each cupcake using a knife or spatula (no need to use a pastry bag to make them look pretty since we’re going to be coating them in coconut!) then sprinkle toasted coconut over each cupcake, pressing down slightly so that the coconut sticks to the frosting. Then place a little bit of frosting onto the bottom of each egg-shaped candy and press it into the center of each cupcake. You’ll need 3 candies per cupcake.

How to Store Bird’s Nest Cupcakes

The great thing about these cupcakes is that they taste even better the next day! Just make sure to store them in a sealed, airtight container and they will last for about a day on the counter then transfer them to your fridge for up to 4 to 5 days. If you’re making these for an Easter or Mother’s Day event, you can absolutely make them ahead of time!

  • To cook perfect soft-boiled eggs, fill a medium saucepan half way with water and bring to a boil. Gently place the eggs in the boiling water and cook for 4 1/2 minutes. Remove the eggs from the water and place in ice water for 10-15 minutes. Once cool, carefully peel the eggs and set them aside.

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Doesn’t Katie look AMAZING? I am SO proud of her! In ONLY 3 months she transformed her life!

“I found Maria Emmerich many years ago when I completed The 30 Day Ketogenic Cleanse. Little did I know I was preparing for my daughter.

Back in August she started to complain about stomach pains, which I blamed on being nervous of the new school year. Fast forward to the end of September and it was blatantly obvious there was something wrong.

As a former failure to thrive infant, I was grateful she was growing, even though I knew she was overweight. After several rounds of blood work, ultra sounds, x-rays and specialists (which we are still seeing to make sure she doesn’t have anything autoimmune), she was diagnosed with a severely inflamed liver and fatty liver.

After reading on the disease, I realized that going dairy free, and “clean” keto, would be her best bet.

So, we’ve been making Maria’s recipes from her Sugar-free Kids cookbook and she’s down almost 20lbs and feeling a 10000000% better (the before photo was taken 3 months ago). She was almost into a girl 14/16, but is now a size 8/10. Our new way of eating (Maria’s Keto) has made her feel so much better than she now packs her lunch for school and helps me plan our meals for the week.

I’m so thankful to have found Maria many years ago! She will quickly tell you that we are not on a diet, we just have a new way of eating our way

bellies don’t hurt anymore.

Thank you so much Maria Emmerich! Have a blessed day!” Stacey

Benefits of Saunas after Workouts

Saunas are wonderful for many reasons but in this post I want to focus on sauna benefits for those of you working out.

Before I jump into the benefits of saunas after workouts, I want all of you to understand that more is not always better. Be careful when doing saunas after workouts. Limit sauna time to no longer than 20 minutes to avoid over-exerting your body. If you have never used a sauna before or are new to saunas, start with shorter periods of time. Listen to your body, it will tell you if you’re spending too long in the sauna after a workout.

I highly recommend drinking at least one full glass of water before and after using a sauna to avoid dehydration, especially after a workout. Do not drink alcohol or use recreational drugs before, during or after sauna use. I also suggest not to eat a large meal before using a sauna.

TOP BENEFITS

1. Promotes Muscle Recovery

A good workout can often cause muscle soreness over the next few days; especially if it is a new muscle group you are working on. Sore muscles can slow down your progress if you decide to skip working out because of the pain and soreness that can be a drag! Doing a sauna after your workout can really reduce delayed onset muscle soreness; also known as DOMS.

Saunas help speed recovery and reduce soreness because saunas increase circulation, which brings more oxygen-rich blood to your muscles and can help speed up muscle recovery.

2. Improves Cardiovascular Health

Using a sauna after a workout can also help improve your cardiovascular health. The heat from the sauna helps to increase your heart rate, which can help improve circulation and oxygen delivery to your muscles. This can also help improve your endurance and overall cardiovascular health.

This study published by the Mayo Clinic reviewed all existing evidence of the sauna’s ability to improve cardiovascular health. It states,Beyond pleasure and relaxation, emerging evidence suggests that sauna bathing has several health benefits, which include reduction in the risk of vascular diseases such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, and neuro-cognitive diseases.”

Another study of over 2,000 men in Finland, where saunas were super popular, found that sauna use lowered the risk of dying from heart disease as well as “all-cause mortality.” Spending time in the sauna decreased their chances of dying from any other cause.

3. Reduces Stress

Working out can be a great way to relieve stress, but using a sauna after your workout can take your stress relief to the next level. Saunas help reduce stress by promoting relaxation and releasing endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling more relaxed and refreshed after your workout.

4. Detoxifies the Body

Saunas can also help detoxify the body by promoting sweating. Sweating helps to remove toxins from the body, including heavy metals and other harmful substances. This can help improve your overall health and wellbeing, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after your workout.

5. Boosts the Immune System

Using a sauna after a workout can also help boost your immune system. The heat from the sauna helps to increase the production of white blood cells, which can help fight infections and other illnesses. This can help keep you healthy and reduce your risk of getting sick.

Using a sauna after working out has a host of benefits. From promoting muscle recovery to reducing stress and boosting the immune system, saunas are a great way to help your body recover after a workout. If you haven’t tried using a sauna after your workout, give it a try and see how it can benefit your health and wellbeing. Using a sauna blanket makes it much more affordable and easy to use and store as well!

WHERE TO GET A SAUNA BLANKET

We do not have a lot of space at our Keto Condo in Maui so a sauna blanket is perfect for getting all the benefits without taking up space!

While blockchain is just seen as a ledger to record crypto payments, it can, in fact, be used for any type of financial transaction, Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden told Yahoo Finance Live (video above).

Warden explained that blockchain can streamline international financial transactions much faster than traditional banking systems because there is no bank acting as a middleman.

“A blockchain is a completely different animal. It’s one ledger. If somebody in Brazil wants to send somebody in France $10, it has to travel through the correspondent banking system of the US [and] clear at the Fed. Somebody takes between 6% and 8% off the top, and it might get there four days later. So that transaction between, say Brazil and France, will happen immediately on Algorand,” Warden said.

It’s all about speed, Warden added. “We are doing about 6,000 transactions per second, moving to 10,000 transactions per second this year. It’ll happen in 3.9 seconds on Algorand,” Warden said.

While crypto companies are under investigation for fraud, Warden touted the transparency of being easily able to trace transactions through the blockchain.

“Transactions are entered, and then they are immutable. It’s about integrity. And so that you know when something is entered, nobody else can mess around with it,” Warden said.

Warden told Yahoo Finance Live that financial transactions can be hacker-proof because the blockchain is decentralized and the information is not just stored on one computer.

“If it’s one ledger, you can’t have one entity control that ledger. It has to be decentralized because if one, you know, the computer gets attacked, it has to be able to live in a healthy manner on all of the other computers,” Warden said.
