Speaking at the Canadian Fintech Summit in Toronto on April 19, Jean-François Perrault made the case that the past decade-plus has been anything but normal, in economic terms.

Central banks first kept interest rates at historic lows following the global financial crisis in 2008 and then boosted them rapidly in the post-pandemic period to stamp out high inflation. That has created economic imbalances.
But the recycling capital that takes place during a recession — and Perrault, like a number of other leading economists, expects one this year — could reset things.
“(A recession) does create conditions for a different perspective on risk appetite, a different perspective on where capital comes from, and despite the fact that things are slowing down, to some extent, the greater diversification of where capital is going into the economy ,” Perrault said. “And that, I think, ultimately is a very positive thing. It actually sets the stage for rebound after the recession.”

Some firms will not survive the economic accounting, of course.
“But as those firms fail, as firms exit certain sectors, it creates opportunities for others or allows capital to move from one part of the economy where it’s less productive, to another part of the economy where it’s more productive,” he said.
In a more normalized environment, he sees the Bank of Canada leaving interest rates in the two to three per cent range, which would be in line with the central bank’s neutral rate range, which is meant to neither contribute to nor hinder economic growth. In this return to normal, Perrault also expects that risk appetite will grow.
To get to that two to three per cent range, the bank will have to reverse course and start cutting interest rates.

For the past two monetary policy decisions, it has kept rates on hold to assess how the cumulative 4.25 per cent increase since early 2022 has affected the economy. Rate increases have a lagging impact and many economists believe the full brunt of the rate increases has not been felt.
“We are at a point now where the conversation is much more about when are central banks going to cut rates and how low do they go once they start cutting,” Perrault said. “And this is where history is a little bit of a tricky thing. We think, for example, the Bank of Canada and the Fed will start cutting rates early next year.”
The Bank of Canada expects it will reach its goal of bringing inflation down to its two per cent target from the March reading of 4.3 per cent by 2024. It’s not clear whether the central bank will cut rates in that same timeframe, but it appears to be what markets are pricing in and what economists are expecting. However, governor Tiff Macklem said it was too soon to be talking about rate cuts right now.

Perrault said that while the central banks won’t come out and say it, a recession seems to be just what the doctor ordered.
“Central banks are a little bit late to the game, so they are tightening a little bit too slowly and as a result, they have to raise rates more than we anticipated,” Perrault said. “Now, they’re not going to go out there and say ‘We want to create a recession’ — of course not. But the reality is that when the central bank has historically tightened a lot, and there are a few episodes of this, they tend to trigger recessions.”

Did you ever wonder why it is easier to gain weight than keeping it off?
The key to this is in the fat cells where a powerful hormone is produced called leptin. Leptin signals the brain to regulate the metabolism in order to store or burn fat.
Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that helps regulate appetite and energy expenditure. When leptin levels are high, it signals to the brain that the body has enough energy and can stop eating. However, when the body becomes resistant to leptin, this signaling system breaks down, leading to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips on improving leptin sensitivity.

85% of people who lose weight end up regaining weight because the “metabolic thermostat” of the body, leptin, is reset upward automatically. When people lose weight, leptin production decreases, which causes people to regain the lost weight. This protein hormone is derived from fat cells so when you lose fat, leptin levels drop. When you gain fat, leptin levels rise. Once leptin is secreted by your fat cells, it travels to the hypothalamus; which controls eating behavior. Once it’s there, leptin activates anorectic nerve cells, which decreases your appetite. At the same time, leptin stops cells from stimulating your appetite. To put it simply, when leptin levels drop, you get hungry. When they go up, you feel full. Leptin communicates directly to your brain, telling the brain how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy, and metabolic rate. Leptin problems are the primary reason for food cravings, overeating, slow metabolism, food obsession and heart disease.
You’d think that having extra fat stores creates more leptin, but that is where an interesting mystery comes into play. 98% of those who are significantly overweight are leptin-resistant. Most defects in leptin signaling may lead to obesity, overeating and less energy expenditure. Leptin-resistance is similar to insulin-resistance in that it occurs after being overexposed to high levels of the hormone. At this point, the body no longer responds to the hormone. Much like high blood sugar levels result in surges in insulin, sugar metabolized in fat cells causes the fat to release surges in leptin. Over time, leptin-resistance may develop.
Leptin is a hormone that is produced by fat cells and is responsible for regulating appetite and energy expenditure. Leptin resistance occurs when the body no longer responds to leptin, leading to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure. In this blog post, we will discuss what leptin resistance is, what causes it, and how to treat it.
This is also why so many people don’t lose weight on high fat keto or carnivore. Or they lose a little weight then stall. If you are overweight or obese, you are likely leptin resistant so don’t get the “I’m full” signal like you should. So you overeat and overeat on fat means less of your own body fat burned for fuel. You have to dial the dietary fat down so you lose more body fat. Losing body fat will then help reverse the leptin resistance and help you feel full quicker.
Leptin resistance is a condition in which the body no longer responds to leptin. Leptin is released by fat cells and travels to the brain to signal that the body has enough energy stores and that it can stop eating. However, when the body becomes resistant to leptin, this signaling system breaks down, and the brain no longer receives the message that the body has enough energy. This leads to increased appetite and decreased energy expenditure, which can contribute to weight gain and obesity.
There are several factors that can contribute to leptin resistance. One of the main causes is obesity. When the body has excess fat, it produces more leptin. Over time, the body becomes resistant to leptin, and the signaling system breaks down. Other factors that can contribute to leptin resistance include a high-fat diet, inflammation, and genetics.
The best way to reduce your chances of diabetes is to avoid surges in leptin; which is the leading cause of leptin-resistance. Eating the typical American diet, full of refined sugars and other processed foods, is a guaranteed way to cause unwanted surges. Focusing your diet on simple, real unprocessed foods is the best way to prevent leptin resistance.
One food to help with leptin is protein. Protein improves leptin sensitivity, which lowers calorie intake by helping you feel full faster. Increase your protein to at least 30 grams for breakfast and at least another 60 throughout the day. Choose quality proteins like salmon, grass fed meat, and free-range eggs!
Maximize your health goals with these FREE meal plans.

1. Reduce Calorie Intake
Reducing calorie intake can help improve leptin sensitivity. When the body has excess fat, it produces more leptin. Over time, the body becomes resistant to leptin, and the signaling system breaks down. By reducing calorie intake, the body can start to use stored fat as energy, which can decrease leptin resistance and improve leptin sensitivity.
2. Prioritize Protein

3. Exercise regularly
Regular exercise can also improve leptin sensitivity. Exercise can increase energy expenditure and improve insulin sensitivity, both of which can improve leptin sensitivity. Resistance training, in particular, has been shown to be effective in improving leptin signaling.
4. Get Enough Sleep
A HUGE piece of healing leptin resistance and improving leptin sensitivity is sleep! Getting enough sleep is also important for improving leptin sensitivity. Lack of sleep can disrupt hormones, including leptin, and contribute to insulin resistance. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to improve leptin sensitivity and overall health.
5. Reduce Stress
Chronic stress can also contribute to leptin resistance. Stress can lead to inflammation and disrupt hormone balance, both of which can contribute to leptin resistance. Finding ways to reduce stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature, can improve leptin sensitivity.
In conclusion, improving leptin sensitivity is important for regulating appetite and energy expenditure. By reducing calorie intake, prioritizing protein intake, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress, it is possible to improve leptin sensitivity and promote a healthy weight. The best thing you can do to reverse leptin resistance is to shrink your fat cells by losing body fat.
“I can still hardly believe how much I’ve changed my health in a year!
God brought me through a series of major stressors but my body was worse for the wear. I tanked my adrenal system and gained a lot of weight. Step one was to accept myself with grace. Then a time came when I really started questioning how the weight was affecting my health. Is this the inevitable path of aging or can I change my future? I chose to go for a new life.
Knowing that I could do better with low carbs, I researched and decided to try Maria & Craig Emmerich’s keto plan. I studied her online courses and books, cooked her recipes, and immersed myself in their online group. I succeeded beyond my wildest dreams!
• 75 pounds lost in a year.
• From size 16/18 to a size 6/8.
• No more heartburn meds.
• Eating delicious food.
• Feeling like myself again, but better.
Thank you so much, Maria & Craig! You’re the best!

A recent enforcement action highlights the need for an effective and updated compliance plan.
A physician in Arkansas has been sentenced to 102 months of prison time and to pay over $4.63 million in restitution. Following release from prison, he will have three (3) years of supervised release. He also was fined $2,200 for a special assessment.
The physician was found guilty of signing prescriptions for patients that he did not know or treat.
The physician was then found guilty of lying about his actions to the FBI. He claimed he only signed prescriptions for those he evaluated and denied receiving any kickbacks.
In response to a subpoena, he only turned over a small portion of records. He also fabricated medical records.
The Arkansas physician’s actions serve as a grave reminder that it is essential to follow your compliance plan. Once a bad act has been discovered, your compliance plan needs to be followed to repair and remedy any issues.
Your practice should have a thorough compliance plan in place and action plans in the event you find any issues.

So many of you are loving my easy Homemade Deli Meat recipe, I couldn’t wait to share my new and improved BEST homemade deli meat recipe with all of you!
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of boiling a pot of water for an hour, you can use an Instant Pot!
Spray 2 wide mouth canning jars with avocado oil spray and place the pureed chicken into them. Put on lids onto the jars. Pour a cup of water into the bottom of the Instant Pot. Place a trivet into the bottom and place the jars on the trivet. Press Manual and pressure cook for 20 minutes. Once finished, place the jars in the fridge for 8 hours before removing and slicing.

As you can see in my photos of my easy homemade deli meat, I have a lot of holes. This is user error. I should have pressed the pureed chicken into the meat press as I added it. After I made a few batches, I found that when I packed it tightly, I didn’t get the holes.
This is why I also decided to add Further Food gelatin to the deli meat!
Further Food gelatin made the deli meat really tender and the texture was just like store bought deli meat but with a much fresher flavour.

I always stock my pantry with Further Food gelatin and collagen! They have so many different flavors of collagen that really make my recipes extra delicious! I know it looks crazy, but I seriously use Further Food in most of my recipes!

Fox News anchor Howard Kurtz said Sunday it had been a “very rough week” for the conservative network in its defense against Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit, which is scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday.
“I can assure you that I will provide fair and down the middle coverage of this $1.6 billion suit about coverage of false election fraud claims in 2020, despite the fact that I work here,” Kurtz told “MediaBuzz” viewers. “And with that, it’s been a very rough week for Fox.”
Kurtz explained to viewers that the judge overseeing the case, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis, had sanctioned Fox News last week and launched an investigation into potential legal misconduct. The dispute revolves around Rupert Murdoch’s role at Fox News and its parent corporation, which Fox lawyers were accused of misrepresenting to the court.
Kurtz also discussed leaked audio tapes of Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, telling Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that he did not have evidence to back up his false claims about election rigging by Dominion in the 2020 election. Fox News was sanctioned by the judge on Wednesday for failing to hand those recordings over to Dominion’s lawyers during discovery.
A rough week for Fox in Dominion lawsuit: Judge knocks down some of its key defenses, sanctions the network and suggests an investigation–but also bars mention of Jan. 6. Fox says the case could do grave damage to all news organizations. Trial starts tom’w https://t.co/acQzT4xwtE
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) April 16, 2023
“That’s not all,” Kurtz said. “In other pretrial rulings, Judge Davis undercut part of Fox’s defense. The judge said Fox News could not argue that it carried false allegations of election fraud by Trump allies because they would be newsworthy. Judge Davis said just because someone is newsworthy doesn’t mean you can defame someone.”
At the time of Kurtz’s remarks, the Dominion trial was expected to begin Monday. However, Davis announced late Sunday that the trial had been delayed until Tuesday. The judge did not give a reason; however, the Wall Street Journal reported that Fox News had made a late push to settle the dispute out of court.
In February, Kurtz said the network had prohibited him from reporting on the lawsuit, noting that he “strongly disagreed” with that decision.
Dominion Voting Systems is suing Fox over allegations the network damaged the voting software company’s reputation by repeatedly amplifying claims that the company helped rig the 2020 election against Trump, despite knowing those claims to be false.
