Small Business Marketing Ideas (For Any Budget)

For one week each spring, “shopping small” means big business.

Small Business Week, happening April 30 through May 6 in 2023, is a prime opportunity for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to raise brand awareness about their products or services—and bring customers in the door.

Doing this, however, requires a little outside-the-box thinking. Giving your marketing efforts a local twist is one way to get the word out.

Here’s a list of SMB marketing strategies designed with local businesses in mind.

What is Small Business Week?

Small Business Week is all about highlighting the resilience of local retailers, restaurants, service providers, and more. It’s a 50-year-old tradition of recognizing “the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners,”1 and it creates an opportunity to introduce smaller brands to new customers—or strengthen relationships with existing ones.

In short: Every small business has a story, and Small Business Week is a chance to tell you.

Five ways to bring your small business marketing ideas to life

Small business promotional ideas should be engaging without breaking the bank. Here are five budget-friendly strategies to help turn your small business advertising ideas into real-world customer conversions.

1. SEO

Organic search engine optimization (SEO) helps ensure that your business is visible when customers search for related products and services online. Start by analyzing your existing search engine ranking and the keywords that are currently generating the most traffic to your site—along with those of your competitors. Optimizing your website for greater exposure on those search terms can drive more visits during Small Business Week and beyond. If you’re stuck in an SEO rut, there’s always the option of boosting your presence with paid media or paid search ads.

2. Local search

Making sure your brick-and-mortar store shows up in localized search results is crucial. Whether customers are searching for “cat collars in Eastport Maine” or “dog grooming Chicago,” it’s important that your business pops up on the first page. Try adding local and regional search terms to the About Us section of your site, or consider partnering with other local businesses to get backlinks and boost your page ranking.2

3.Digital audio

No list of small business advertising strategies would be complete without digital audio. Given that US adults now spend more time with digital audio daily than they do on social networks or watching video content on their smartphones,3 it’s a promising avenue for reaching potential shoppers ahead of Small Business Week.

4. Social media

Social remains a go-to destination for small business brands. Promoting your local business by posting photos taken on-site can entice customers to visit in person—but don’t forget to tell your larger brand story. Sharing historical facts and information about how your business contributes to the local community or posting photos and stories about staff can help humanize your brand, as well as build loyalty and trust among followers.

5. Email marketing

If you already have an email list, use it to let existing customers know about your Small Business Week sales, in-store promotions, free product offers, and local events. You can even consider running a contest for the occasion and collecting email addresses as entries. Then, follow up with compelling and location-relevant content—including links to multimedia or blog posts.

How Spotify can level up your local ad campaigns

With Spotify Ad Studio, small business advertisers can start a campaign for as little as $250. This gives you access to our intuitive self-serve ads manager, which includes robust targeting tools. Ad Studio makes it simple for SMBs to create ads likely to reach and resonate with the audiences they care about most.

Research shows that Spotify audio ads have 19% more brand impact compared to all other forms of media,4 which makes digital audio a smart choice for small business owners and local businesses. Ads heard on Spotify are also recalled at a rate that’s five times greater than a model based on chance.5

Digital audio advertising ideas for your small business could include podcast ads designed to help boost your brand or timely, event-specific ads targeted to niche audiences. If you’re looking for Small Business Week ideas to help you market your SMB this year, don’t miss the opportunity to incorporate digital audio in your campaign.

Ready to launch a campaign? Ad Studio is a great place to start.

Level Up Your Presentations With Cutting-Edge Immersive Technologies

By Vikas Agrawal, co-founder at Infobrandzan elite team of visual communication experts taking content marketing to the next level.

Immersive technologies create a sense of presence in a simulated environment or augment the real world with digital elements. They are being increasingly used to create immersive presentations for entertainment, education, training, communication and marketing. And that’s not surprising. Immersive technologies can make presentations gripping and engaging while simplifying complex or abstract concepts manifold.

This is reflected by the global immersive technology market size, which was valued at USD 21.66 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow exponentially to an impressive hit of USD 134.18 billion by 2030.

So what are immersive technologies, how do they work and how can you apply them to amplify the effectiveness of your presentations? As co-founder of a visual marketing agency, I’d like to share my top six immersive presentation technologies.

Augmented Reality (AR)

Augmented reality overlays digital information or objects on top of the real world, enhancing the user’s perception of reality. AR can be used for presentations that need to add context, detail or novelty to the physical environment. It is usually remotely accessible with just a mobile device, making it a hugely popular immersive presentation medium.

AR typically requires a mobile device with a camera, while some specialized applications may require specific AR glasses.

You can use AR to show the audience how a product works, how a building would look, how furniture would look in their home or how wearable accessories would appear on them, among other applications.

360-Degree Videos

360-degree video captures the entire scene from all angles, allowing the user to look around and choose their own perspective with the use of a headset or touchscreen. It creates a highly realistic and detailed experience by encompassing the entire environment.

This medium can be ideal for presentations that want to immerse the audience in a different location, culture or situation such as a travel destination, a real estate property or a personal story.

Interactive Presentations

In my experience, interactiveness is the key to engagement with your audience, and interactive presentations leverage this perfectly by including elements like hyperlinks and hotspots to create an engaging and personalizable interface. They also include audio, video, charts, surveys, navigation and transitions that are controllable by viewers.

Interactive videos require displays with touchscreens or other controllers like a mouse. They are usually also accessible on mobile devices, and this makes them convenient for remote presentations.

Interactive presentations can be used in various settings such as education, business marketing and healthcare to engage audiences, enhance learning and create personalized experiences.

Virtual Reality (VR)

Virtual Reality creates a fully immersive experience that blocks out the physical surroundings and transports the user to a different reality. It typically involves 3-dimensional and 360-degree viewing technology as well as AR, 3-D audio, interactive elements, digital modeling and other regulators that control temperature and smell, among others.

VR presentations usually require the use of 3-D glasses and a headset with tracking along with other devices depending on the complexity of the experience.

Consider using VR presentations for simulations, product demonstrations and virtual tours of physical sites or digitally-modeled fictional worlds.

Mixed Reality (MR)

Mixed Reality combines elements of VR and AR, creating a hybrid experience that allows the user to interact with both digital and physical objects in a shared space. It is perfect for presentations that involve collaboration, creativity or problem-solving.

An MR presentation could enable the audience to co-create a design, manipulate a 3-D model or solve a puzzle.

Holograms

Holograms are three-dimensional images that appear to float in mid-air, creating an illusion of depth and realism. Holograms can impress, inspire and surprise the audience by leveraging the power of realistic visuals. They can create a more memorable experience, as 65% of the population are visual learners.

One holographic projector device with speakers is enough to create a complete 3-D experience at your target location. Consider using a hologram presentation to feature a celebrity speaker, a live performance, a product or special effects.

Getting Started

Immersive presentations are not easy to create, and your best bet as a business may be to go for specialized agencies that create immersive and interactive presentations. Alternatively, you can get started by doing the following:

• Research and select the correct tools and techniques as per your requirements and target audience, or hire experts in immersive presentations who help with it.

• Find an advanced SaaS presentation software that can support high interactivity and 3-D modeling with specialized features that suit your vision.

• Acquire specialized visual design, video editing and digital modeling tools that allow collaboration.

• Invest in high-quality video cameras based on the presentation medium you wish to use and the devices required for it.

• Create the scripts and slides and set up recording environments for your presentation.

Summing Up

We have discussed some of the top cutting-edge immersive technologies that can enhance presentations and make them more memorable and impactful. But don’t hurry up!

Before diving into the world of immersive presentations, you must remember to consider your options carefully and give enough time to plan and design. You must also ensure that they align with the goals and needs of the presenter and the audience.

Now go ahead and unlock the immense potential of immersive presentations to engage and convince your audience.

How Shay Mitchell Turned Her Penchant for Travel Into a Full-Fledged Business

Shay Mitchell on Turning Her Hobby Into a CareerHearst Owned

“Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links.”

In ELLE.com’s monthly series Office Hours, we ask people in powerful positions to take us through their first jobs, worst jobs, and everything in between. This month we spoke to actress, model, entrepreneur, and mother of two Shay Mitchell, who is not only celebrating five years of her travel brand Béis, but a just-launched kids collection. (Béis translates to “beige,” after a beige bag Mitchell used to travel with.) It truly is my first baby,” she tells ELLE.com of her company, which specializes in functional luggage. Every single detail, from the design to the models we book for our ad campaigns, I oversee.” Itit’s hard to believe she still has time to run her tequila seltzer brand, Onda, too. Here, Mitchell talks about diversity in Hollywood, whats always in her bag, and why Drake is her secret fan.

My first job

I worked at a café in Vancouver called Coco Loco. They served sandwiches and coffee, and I could never figure out how to get the damn coffee machine to work—it was this elaborate Italian espresso maker and I always messed it up. I think my salary was $7 or $8 an hour. I’m still scarred from that experience. People would come in with the craziest coffee orders. Now, my order is super simple because I know how hard it is for the baristas.

My worst job

Bottleservice. I hate it. It wasn’t the job as much as the situation—navigating crowds, dealing with really difficult customers when they’re intoxicated, etc.—but the money was very good. You’d leave with great tips, but you never knew what you were getting into on any given night.

On diversity in Hollywood

I remember getting the audition for Pretty Little Liars, and the character of Emily in the book had strawberry blonde hair with freckles and a very fair complexion. When I first booked the part, everybody was like, “What? You don’t look like the girl next door.” But I think, in this day and age, I am the girl next door. That didn’t deter me back then. I was going to go for it regardless, because I didn’t want to look back with regrets.

How I transitioned out of the entertainment industry

There was always a lot of downtime on the Pretty Little Liars set while I waited for the next scene, so I started a blog, which kept me busy between takes. From there, I wrote a book. And then, during our breaks from filming, I would travel, so I created a YouTube channel that documented my trips. When Shaycations took off, my friends would constantly ask me for recommendations and packing advice.

The power of self-documenting

I was always that girl with the camera. Like, at the club, I’d have the digital camera. I have way too many photos on my phone and on my laptop. Documenting has always been important to me, so that I can remember the experience and share it with others, so they can go and experience it too. It felt selfish to do otherwise. i was like, this is too good to just keep to myself. My trip to India is still one of my best pieces of content.

Why I started Béis

I’ve always known that there was an entrepreneurial side to me, and I always wanted to get into business, but I had never been to school. I’ve had experiences with luggage where wheels would fall off and I’d get angry at myself for not spending more money to get a better bag. When I knew it was time to start my own company, I noticed there was a huge gap in the market: you either had super expensive companies with crazy bags that weren’t even functional, and on the other side of the spectrum, you had affordable bags that were ugly and not well-made.

Basically, I wanted a line of affordable bags that had all the functions I could dream up and look really good at the same time. The price is really important to me, because I know how expensive traveling is—I don’t want the bags to break the bank because you should be able to spend that money on the experiences you have. It’s an on-the-go brand, whether you’re going on a hike, to the gym, or to the grocery store. I want to provide different accessories for all of those different things, so everyone can have a bag that makes them feel at home when they’re not at home.

What’s always in my bag

My cosmetics case for on-the-go touchups. When I’m traveling, I use our recyclable tote because of the functionality—certain compartments just make everything so easy. I know exactly where my passport is and exactly where I put my snacks and water bottle.

Best career advice I’ve ever received

Work with people who are smarter than you. My whole motto in life is “I have this one life. What do I want to do?” I never want to look back and wish I had done something. So regardless of the experience or lack of experience I have in terms of design, business marketing, all of it, I just had to [launch Béis]. I brought people onto my team who were smarter than me and had way more experience and were experts in their own fields. That’s something I’ve never been afraid to do.

How I balance work and family

I take time to myself because I have an incredible team around me. There’s no way I could do what I do without the help of people—everything from childcare to my team, my publicist, my agent. I owe it all to them.

Most surprising Onda fan

My number one customer is Drake—and he has nothing to do with me. He found it on his own and pays for it, gets it delivered, and travels with it. He has Onda on him at all times!

How To Lose The Extra Kilos In A Week

The biggest mistake we make when we make the decision to finally start this diet that can make our lives a little harder, is that we lean on things that end up bringing us the opposite results. What are we trying to say? A smart tip if you want to lose excess weight in a few days is not to frantically avoid sweets and carbohydrates, but to drop small “bad” habits. The idea is not to overdo it, which can also be a strong psychological burden for us, but to follow advice that will actually bring radical changes over time. In particular, if they are combined with regular exercise of 20-30 minutes, which increases your muscle mass, you will lose the extra kilos and the result will justify you.

Avoid excessive consumption of bread

Sure, the simple solution for those days when we don’t have the stamina to cook or maybe are not even in the mood to order something is to end up eating, mostly toast or various sandwiches, with what we have in the fridge. It would be good to try their abstinence, because too much bread has always not been our best friend, and to try to replace it with a tortilla, for example. Of course, we should pay a little more attention to our ingredients, including vegetables, but without high-fat foods or sauces, such as mayonnaise. It would be even more ideal if you could reduce carbohydrates, by allowing them in at least 2 out of 3 meals and try new simple protein-based recipes.

Satisfying breakfast

Mornings seem like torture to get up and go to the kitchen even more. That’s why we usually neglect meals that don’t fill us up, just to avoid this inconvenience. You must know that in order to achieve your goals, you must give special “care” to each of your meals, not to mention breakfast, which is the most important. A suggestion, that will provide you with few calories, but at the same time will make you feel full for the rest of the day, so you will not digress, and also is an excellent source of protein, is undoubtedly eggs. Put an egg together with 1-2 egg whites in the non-stick pan and you will see that it is not as difficult as you think.

Go sugar free

A large percentage of people drink at least 2 to 3 coffees per day, so consider also adding white sugar, which is equivalent to 20 calories. For example, if you start drinking your beverage moderately and less sweetly, you will automatically save 60-180 calories per day by cutting out the sugar. If you do not like this abstinence at all, you can also use the brown variety, but again, watch the amount. And if you add milk, ask for low-fat milk and not whole milk, as this is also responsible for the extra calories.

Eat your veggies

Losing excess weight, is associated with eating greens, which are anything cut from trees and plants. Fill the fridge with different products, even those you don’t know, and lots of salads and experiment with recipes that you can execute. In this way you will be able to acquire a healthy routine and give a real foundation to these foods. In this way you will be able to cheat here and there and have a balance between. Also, drink plenty of water; this will help you feel full.

Free Coaching Lesson You Can Use Instantly To Stand Out From The Crowd

You will notice a change of status in minutes!

I was stunned by how fast people walked when I first visited the City of London. It was a world apart from how I grew up in the furthest of south Europe, where we would take our time to enjoy the scenery and chat with people on the street almost every time we went somewhere on foot.

A fast walk is a sign of determination and is a habit of go-getters. These are people who know what they want, and they go for it without hesitation. This article will tell the most critical differences between slow and fast walkers and offer a hint on changing your walking habits, if you want to be more successful.

Slow walkers typically take their time to enjoy the surroundings or take a break to grab a coffee or snack. Time is not that much of an issue – punctuality, neither. They seem to walk only because they have to.

In contrast, fast walkers rush through the world with a sense that they know what they want and are determined to make it theirs. A quick walker has an intent, purposeful gait. He will be paying attention to where he is going and looking in front of him. Slow walkers are often running late for something.

While staying in London, I made it a habit to attend to people on the street to identify patterns of walkers based on their general posture and other tell-tales from body language.

I was doing this because I wanted to understand better how people stand, move and walk and and use that knowledge in my coaching practice and training program.

I am a long-time student of the relationship between the body — a kind of transient entity moving through space, and the mind that “commands” intention and purpose. The human body is constantly in flux, but these transitions are subtle and not always obvious. Over time, looking more closely, I noticed some exciting kinds of patterns. I could quickly tell, for example, that better-dressed individuals, regardless of other traits, walked at a significantly faster pace than others. Is this just a habit? I wondered. Does it happen randomly, or is it evidence of a distinction between the successful and the not-so-successful?

The former, the successful ones, were perceived by the world to be better dressed and took up a larger space than others. They wore blazers and black shoes and had a certain elegance about them.

The latter, the not-so-obsessed with success individuals, walked more slowly, usually, wearing brighter or mixed colors, usually with their heads down.

Their shoes looked muddy and scuffed from walking on wet ground.

The more successful persons did not have “time” to greet anyone or look up – even if someone greeted them.

These are just personal observations, of course.

Yet, one thing stood out when I waited outside the enormous glass buildings, sipping an espresso and catching up with my associate.

There is a fork before the exit of Liverpool Streetwhere one wing leads to the vast flea market and the other to a corporate tower that belongs to a Bank.

While I was not holding a tachymeter, one thing was apparent: Bankers — either entering or leaving the building, were super-fast, giving the impression that something was going on, while casual shoppers, through that same part of the road, were slow , as if they were scared (metaphorically speaking), to enter the open market area.

See where we are getting with this?

As a general rule: You can verify this at work and in any professional environment. The more senior people seem to walk faster, even down corridors in the office — where space is limited. In outdoor spaces, they look active and energetic, but what makes them really stand out is their rhythmic walking pace as if there is a lot of stake where they are headed.

On the other hand, more junior or lower-grade workers tend to walk slowly and cautiously and lack the aura of confidence.

If you want to look — and feel — more influential, take home this bit of advice

Start with your walking pace first. Adopt a faster, brisker style. Make the streets your playing stage to rehearse.

Straighten your stance, and make your steps fast but not too fast. Wherever you are headed, get familiar with the notion you are out walking the crowds. practice makes perfect.

Remember what the famous singer is Sting said:

“A gentleman will walk but never run.”

As the brand new yr approaches, it is time to begin fascinated about your advertising technique for the upcoming yr. As you propose your price range and allocate sources, contemplate including these seven advertising tendencies to get forward of your competitors in 2023.

Private Branding

You’ll be able to’t have a enterprise with no model—sadly, when shoppers take a look at your services or products, their subsequent step within the decision-making course of is to analysis your organization and its founder. When the consumer or buyer heads to your social media channels, what’s going to they discover?

Do your social media profiles inform them what you do, who you serve and why? Is your private model in alignment with what you are promoting objectives?

Your solutions to those questions should be a powerful “sure” if you wish to keep forward of the competitors. You need individuals to acknowledge you and your model after they see it. To do that, you should be current within the digital and bodily world, constant along with your messaging on and offline and lively within the locations your viewers frequents.

Advertising Gone Meta

Tech entrepreneurs are all the time speaking about “disruption.” The subsequent large disruption in advertising will likely be by way of the metaverse. The query is, will your small enterprise be prepared? Watch this video by Satya Nadella on how the metaverse might remodel the best way we see and take part on the earth to know how one can make the most of this rising know-how earlier than your competitors does.

The metaverse is a digital world the place individuals can discover and work together. It is sort of a cross between the “actual” world and the web. Within the metaverse, companies can create their very own digital actuality expertise for his or her prospects. This can be a nice strategy to give them an immersive expertise.

Listed here are 3 ways your small enterprise can embrace the metaverse:

1. Use AR and VR to create an immersive expertise to your prospects.

How can your small enterprise join its members to at least one one other underneath a shared imaginative and prescient? I not too long ago watched the WeWork documentary on Hulu. In the event you aren’t accustomed to the story, WeWork is an organization that gives shared workplace areas for entrepreneurs and small companies. The corporate began out with a lofty purpose—altering the best way we work.

The thought behind WeWork is straightforward however highly effective: Individuals are extra productive after they really feel like they’re a part of a group.

I am not right here to debate the errors of its founder however moderately the ability behind the thought of group. Your buyer is craving group; give it to them.

Knowledge-Pushed Content material

In line with Hubspot analysis, 54% of most audiences want movies to written content material.

Is your viewers included in that share? When was the final time you studied the info? As an evidence-based coach, knowledge is a significant participant in my enterprise selections.

We all know that content material is king, however small enterprise homeowners cannot depend on guesswork when deciding what kind and medium of content material to provide. To maximise your advertising price range, energy your selections with knowledge. It helps you perceive who your prospects are, what they need and the way greatest to succeed in them.

Each assist you to attain new audiences who might not be accustomed to your work and heighten your visibility and experience.

You’re six levels from a possible enterprise companion or contact who can change the trajectory of what you are promoting. The issue is that you do not know the opposite 5 individuals between you and them. That is the place networking along with your friends is useful. An extended-term however efficient technique for small enterprise advertising in 2023 will probably be alliances between non-competing companies to assist get the phrase out about one another.

The Regular Rise Of Influencer Advertising

You could not be capable to get an A-list superstar to endorse your services or products, however you may get an influencer. Audiences depend on influencers for suggestions, and small enterprise homeowners want to attach with engaged audiences that need their services or products.

However do not be fooled. Not all influencers have the identical viewers connection. When evaluating an influencer for what you are promoting, contemplate them:

• Attain. How many individuals will they be capable to attain with their message?

• Engagement. Do their followers work together with their posts?

• Relevance. Is their viewers related to what you are promoting?

• Authenticity. Is the influencer genuine?

What does your services or products imply to them? Are they selling one thing comparable? These are all inquiries to ask earlier than signing an influencer to an endorsement deal.

For some small enterprise homeowners, area of interest influencers with small however extremely engaged audiences are the higher choice to your advertising {dollars}.

Small companies want to begin fascinated about advertising to remain forward of the competitors in 2023.
