PCAOB Seeks Input on New Strategic Plan

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) is seeking feedback on its proposed 2026-2030 strategic plan, which aims to strengthen its investor-protection mission and guide its work across the organization. The deadline for comments is September 4, 2026.

According to the filing, the strategic plan aligns the board’s programs, operations, and activities with its overall mission to protect investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate, and independent audit reports.

Strategic Priorities and Goals

PCAOB officials have identified three reinforcing priorities: advance audit quality and investor protection, clarify expectations and bases for decisions leading to understandable outcomes, and transform how oversight is delivered.

Based on public feedback and the views of experts serving on the board’s advisory groups, they have drafted six strategic goals and related objectives for its 2026-2030 strategic plan. These goals include modernizing standard setting and implementation, modernizing the inspections and registration programs, and sharpening enforcement focus on conduct harmful to investors.

The draft plan also emphasizes the importance of deepening stakeholder engagement and communication, modernizing oversight through technology and data, and strengthening organizational effectiveness and stewardship.

Board Members’ Comments

George Botic expressed his support for the draft strategic plan, noting that it continues to focus on engagement with investors and other outside stakeholders. He also emphasized the need for the PCAOB to invest in technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, to better utilize the data it collects.

Steven Laughton added that the PCAOB’s direction under Chairman Demetrios Logothetis has been clear, with a focus on listening to stakeholders, improving inspections, and re-focusing enforcement resources on significant violations that pose risks to investors.

Chairman Logothetis stated that receiving stakeholder feedback at this stage will help ensure that the final 2026-2030 Strategic Plan is both ambitious and practical, advancing audit quality, enhancing transparency, and positioning the PCAOB to meet the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly evolving environment.
